You don't have to be a Marine Biologist to be fascinated with great white sharks, bull sharks, hammerhead sharks to enjoy watching the amazing sharks in the world's largest aquarium's shark cam. Last summer in conjunction with shark week the Georgia Aquarium offered a great shark cam !

While shark week is more known for stories, photos and video of shark attacks, a shark feeding frenzy and tales from shark attack survivors - the shark cam showed a peaceful look (and listen) to whale sharks and many other sharks that live in the Ocean Voyager gallery. The Georgia Aquarium is the only institution outside of Asia to house whale sharks and the shark cam was an amazing view of many shark species. Many times the whale sharks can block out the shark cam due to their size.

The Georgia Aquarium is the world's largest aquarium with more than 8.5 million gallons of marine and fresh water. As the world's largest aquarium along with a bull shark and other shark species the aquarium houses more than 120,000 animals of 500 different species. Lots of people watch Shark Week and become both attracted to and afraid of sharks in both deep water and shallow water. At the Georgia Aquarium they currently list the following sharks :

  • whale shark
  • blacktip reef shark
  • spotted or tassled wobbegong shark
  • zebra shark
  • sandbar shark
  • sand tiger shark
The whale sharks are really large and according to the Georgia Aquarium web site the whale sharks can grow to 35 feet long. That's a lotta shark! We are definitely going to need a bigger boat*

* From the movie "Jaws"- reference about fishermen hunting The Great white shark "Carcharodon carcharias" for those too young to have seen the movie
